The AFS New Mexico Area is part of American Field Service Intercultural Programs, a student exchange program started in 1947 by volunteer ambulance drivers after World War II. Their dedication to international volunteer service led them to create the exchange program to promote international understanding among the next generation. Today, AFS continues that tradition, working for a more just and peaceful world, one student at a time.

The New Mexico area hosts about 20 foreign students and sends 10-15 students abroad every year. This year, we are hosting students from Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and the Middle East, and have sent students to Europe, South American and Asia.
